I did it, but it didn't work.
When I insert the UMD, the psp tries to load it and after a few minutes I get this error message "The disc could not be read"

flash1 only stores settings, did you restore with the CFW active or not?

No, It won't. But NEVER format flash0, it WILL brick your PSP and you may not be able to restore it. But formatting flash1 is safe.

I did it with the CFW active and inactive.
I'm going to upgrade to 6.20 right now, I hope that fix the UMD reader

And I hope this will, but there are 99% chance this is an hardware problem, so upgrading or flashing couldn't help. Good luck.

Maybe it's a problem with the umd slot of your psp.

Can you run umds when your psp is on official firmware 5.03?

Upgrading from 5.03 to 6.20 will result in losing all the advantages of 5.03 GEN C for HEN (higher compatibility with homebrews/emulators/plugins/Dax's popsloader/kernel 1.50 addon...

I just upgraded to 6.20 and it didn't fix the problem, I can't run any UMD on cfw nor on ofw.

It stopped working when I was mounting an ISO video, that's what I thought that the cfw damaged something in the psp.

I checked the UMD Slot and it looks good, the laser and the thing that spins are working, I was thinking that the lens may be dirty.

To me any software problems should be fixed when reinstalling upgrading FW.

The best choice for you is to go to the nearest Sony Customer Service and they should repair your psp.

BTW I also have problems with mine but sometimes the Plugins for the Analog
Stick like Joysense and Macrofire do amazing work especially if my analog stick have ghost moves.

Sure no plugin or FW will fix UMD Drive only hardware repair service. ;)
