Message which model to buy
Hi everyone!
I'm looking forward to buying a used psp to make traveling less boring.
In order to play my game's backups from the MS which model should I look for?
I'm new in the psp area, but I did some research before posting here, so I suppose anything below psp-3000 OFW 5.03 is good? (in order to use CFW 5.03GEN-C for HEN)

Still, I'm unsure of the difference between older systems and newer ones, I was told that for older versions of the psp you only need to flash it once and for the latest versions you need to flash it every time you turn it off/on. Is this true? (sorry but it can be confusing for someone who isn't inside the psp scene :P)

I'll continue my research now.
Thanks in advance.

Hello :)

First of all, you must understand that the newest PSPs are better in hardware than the older ones
For instance, the LCD screen of a PSP 3000 will be far better than a PSP 1000 one

On the other hand, you have to see that the oldest PSPs are more convenient to use once hacked.

That is completely true
But now, there is a plugin that prevents the PSP from turning off accidentally, so it's better than it used to be when the PSP 3000 had just been hacked

Also, despite the fact that a PSP 3000 (hacked) can do almost all the things a PSP 1000 or 2000 (hacked), it is a bit more unsecure.
You can "brick" a psp 3000 for ever, but not a psp 1000 or 2000

Every psp corresponding to what you said can be hacked

EDIT:

I forgot to say you something really important

The PSP 2000 with datecodes greater than 8C are equally difficult to hack as PSP 3000
So, a PSP 2000 datecode 8C and OFW> 5.03 cannot be hacked
And you will also have the same problem when turning it off

you forgot something else very important:

if the PSP comes with version 4.90 (or something, I'll double-check my numbers) up to 5.02 it will be a v3 psp 2000, this means it will be unflashable. I have one myself, there's no datecode on mine

Yes,

I didn't speak of the PSP without datecodes

The correct explanation is:

If you don't have a datecode, there is another method to know if you will encounter the same problems as with a PSP 3000.

You must know the firmware the PSP had got when you bought it.
If it was equal or greater than 4.01, then you will have a PSP similar to a PSP 3000 on the hacking part

First of all, thank you for the replies :D

Hum, ok I think I got most of it...

So, resuming:
- Psp-1000 & 2000 OFW < 4.01 -> safer hacking; can turn the power off/on without having to flash again.

- Psp-2000 datecode >= 8C or OFW >= 4.01 & Psp-3000 OFW =< 5.03 -> unsecure hacking (can brick psp); can't turn off the power or need to flash every time you do.

- Psp-3000 OFW > 5.03 -> cannot be hacked atm.

Please correct me if anything is wrong.
Thanks.

no, SOME 4.01s can be flashed, not all. and you'll be hard-pressed to find one that does. best method here is to try using pandora, it if works, it's flashable, if not, HEN it up a notch.

PSP-1000 of ANY FW can be hacked using pandora. Mine is on 6.20 OFW for now (till 6.xx drivers for the new cam are brought to GEN)

Since you're a noob about psp ( no offense), I would advise you to buy a psp slim(2000) already hacked with a stable cfw so you if you mess up with it it wouldn't be bricked forever. You need to ask for a psp slim v1 or v2 ( TA-85v1/v2 or TA88-V1/v2) keep the hell away from any TA-88v3 or any psp 3000!

That's almost right
On a psp 2000, you have to worry about the firmware (the one the psp had when you first bought it) only if the PSP hasn't got a Datecode

And it isn't because the PSP has now OFW 4.01 that you will encounter the problems you listed:
It is because the PSP had it when you bought it, therefore it had it when it got out of the Sony Factory

Except this point, you understood everything :)

I have a question to ask about PSP-3000, does CFW-M33 supports it?

No, even though you can install a firmware shown as "5.03 M33", which isn't really related to the M33 team. Anyways, you'll have to use the HEN, and therefore you'll need 5.03 OFW, and Gen firmwares will certainly do what you need.

So you are saying that 5.00 M33 and below is not working for PSP-3000?

Exactly

5.00 m33 and below will not work, and others firmwares like 5.50 GEN-D3 won't work either

The CF working on the PSP 3000 must be like "5.03 XXXXX".
For instance: 5.03 GEN, and also 5.03 m33
