[TUTO] How to install a Custom Firmware on your PSP
Hi,
You might want to install a CFW on your PSP, but not know what to do in order to get this firmware. This message lists the existing methods, but does
not explains exactly how to use them in details. I'd recommand to search on Google, as there should be a tutorial about each method I recommand here (unless you're looking for something
really obvious).
First of all, remember that you can not install any other CFW than 5.03 GEN for HEN on a PSP whose datecode is greater than (or equal to) 8C, unless you want to brick your psp for ever. For instance, this will happen if you attempt to install the 5.00 M33 on a PSP 3000.So, you have to know the following informations in order to check the right tutorial:
- Your PSP's model.
- Your datecode.
- Your firmware.
Your PSP's model is pretty easy to see. You can see it just by having a look at your PSP.
The PSP 1000, also called PHAT or FAT, is, as it could be understood by its name, fat. Also, you need to press a button in order to open its UMD drive.
The PSP 2000, also called Slim & Lite, has sony's logo on its right, while The PSP 3000 (Slim & lite brite) has it on its left.
Your datecode is on the back of your PSP, as in the following picture :

Your firmware can be seen on your PSP, just go into Settings => System settings => System information, and look at the "System software" line.
Now that you know this, you can check for what to do

( Explanations about the HEN and the creations of kits are below )
With a PSP FAT, and a firmware older than (or equal to) 5.03Like with every PSP fat, it is possible to use a DDC kit, as well as an XGen pandora one.
But, if you do not have one, then there's still one possibility in your case. That is the HEN.
Other PSP FATYou do not have any other options than the use of a DDC or XGen pandora kit.
PSP 2000, datecode greater than (or equal to) 8C, and firmware older than 5.03Your only gateway is the HEN, after having installed the 5.03.
PSP 2000, datecode < 8C, firmware older than (or equal to) 5.03.Here, you can, at your option, use eiter a DDC/XGen pandora kit or the HEN.
PSP 2000, datecode < 8C, firmware greater than (or equal to) 5.03.You need to create a DDC/XGen pandora kit.
PSP3000, firmware older than 5.03The HEN is your only option (for now)
Other PSPsIf your PSP doesn't match any of the previous requirements, then, unless this post is getting old, you cannot install any CFW.
How to use the HEN.Firstly, you need to install the 5.03:

Once you've installed the right firmware, use the HEN :
http://www.pspgen.com/chickhen-r2-fix-f ... 88761.html (The tutorial is in French, you should look for a translation).
Once you've managed to install it, you can install two different firmwares :
- 5.50 Gen-D3: If you were recommanded to use an XGen pandora kit, that is what you have to do

- 5.03 Gen-C: For PSPs on which you cannot install the previous one, i.e. You weren't recommanded to use a kit on your PSP.
How to create an XGEN Pandora kitYou need a PSP on which you've already installed a CFW in order to create one.
Well, here is the French tutorial, but you'll most likely need a translated tutoriel about this:
